The Nuclear AMRC aims to ensure that the nuclear manufacturing supply chain has the skills required to compete in the global market.
We are developing a programme of skills and training services, focused on:
- Training and skills for nuclear new-build.
- Up-skilling the existing trained manufacturing workforce.
- Attracting more talented people into the manufacturing workforce and developing generic engineering and specific nuclear manufacturing skills.
We are working with the National Skills Academy for Nuclear and other organisations to develop and deliver training and skills development programmes across the nuclear skills pyramid. Our training programmes will address apprenticeships, higher-level skills (BSc, MSc, PhD) and continuous professional development.
A key programme is the development of a new National Skills Academy for Manufacturing for Nuclear. A collaboration between the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, Semta/National Skills Academy for Manufacturing and the Nuclear AMRC, the Academy will include a dedicated Manufacturing Skills for Nuclear hub at our South Yorkshire facility. The proposed Academy has received government support, with final approval expected in early 2012.
The Nuclear AMRC will also have close links with the new University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Institute Training Centre. The Training Centre is supported by Government, and due to open in autumn 2013.
