• The NAMRC - building and enhancing the UK civil nuclear industry

The Nuclear AMRC is a joint initiative with industry, The University of Sheffield and The University of Manchester’s Dalton Nuclear Institute.

The consortium forms part of the Government’s Low Carbon Industrial Strategy and is at the forefront of enhancing manufacturing capability by assisting members to increase quality, reliability and efficiency and reducing costs and complexity. It delivers this by taking laboratory tested processes into prototype real size precommercial manufacture with the necessary validation and accreditation processes.

Working in partnership with Government and business, the Nuclear AMRC is designed to be the focal point for the civil nuclear manufacturing industry in the UK. The services provided to consortium members will enable them to be match-fit to win and hold contracts in the global civil nuclear market place.

  • Nuclear Business Opportunities

The NAMRC aims to recognise the expertise of companies already in the nuclear industry and to work with them to develop and disseminate best practice. Furthmore, by building on the work of other organisations such as the NIA (supply chain development) and National Skills Academy for Nuclear (training), an integrated, collaborative approach is assured.

The NAMRC is open to all companies who would benefit from membership and who wish to develop their presence in the civil nuclear supply chain.

The Centre is likely to be of particular benefit to manufacturing companies who are either already part of the civil nuclear manufacturing industry and supply chain, or manufacturers who are serious about entering this market.

  • Assisting and advising companies

The Nuclear AMRC will support the rejuvenation of the UK nuclear supply chain by:

Helping companies to understand the qualification and accreditation requirements of the nuclear industry.
Assisting with training and developing staff expertise.
Assisting companies in the nuclear supply chain to introduce ‘step change’ manufacturing technologies and to become competitive in global markets.

The Nuclear AMRC will comprise 8,000m2 ‘state-of-the-art’ manufacturing demonstration facilities in Sheffield and extended research laboratories in Manchester.

  • Events to attract consortium members

The NAMRC will be recruiting consortium members over the months ahead and arranging events to explain the work of the Centre and how it will be of service to the civil nuclear industry. If you are interested in attending one of these events then please keep in touch with this website.

There are many nuclear seminars, conferences and workshops that take place throughout the year provided by a variety of organisations. We will list the events that we consider are of value to industry, together with the NAMRC's own events as these become available. The next event is:

Nuclear New Build 2010 Conference with the Nuclear Industry Association and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers- London 2-3 March 2010
